Women Leaders in Eye Health launches the first Gender and Eye Health course in English on Cybersight

In celebration of World Sight Day 2025, the Women Leaders in Eye Health initiative proudly announced the launch of Advancing Gender Equity in Global Eye Healthcare, the first non-clinical Gender and Eye Health e-course in English available on Orbis’s Cybersight platform.
This landmark achievement represents a major step forward for WLEH’s Workstream 3: Training and Capacity Building for Gender Equality, which focuses on empowering women professionals in the eye health sector through tailored training and learning resources.
The course explores both qualitative and quantitative eye health information from a global gender perspective, with real-world examples and case studies from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It also integrates findings from Orbis’s 2024 Gender Training Needs Assessment, conducted across eight countries, which highlights barriers, training gaps, and opportunities to strengthen women’s leadership in eye health.
Through four interactive modules, participants gain practical insights on integrating gender considerations into project design, institutional planning, and everyday professional practice. Activities, quizzes, and multimedia elements help reinforce learning — and participants earn a certificate of completion, free of charge, through Cybersight.
This launch marks a significant moment for the Women Leaders in Eye Health initiative and the broader eye care community, strengthening collective efforts to ensure that women not only participate but also lead in shaping the future of global eye health.
