The WLEH team was proud to be represented at InSight Live in Kenya, where we presented key findings through a gender-focused poster from the Orbis delegation, authored by Jennifer Tapia Boada.

At InSight Live 2030, the WLEH team also witnessed the powerful ripple effect of investing in women’s leadership. Moments of reconnection brought to life the long-term impact of the initiative, from former 2025 Professional Development Grant awardees, Juania Auguste and Fatima Zehra, now confidently participating in global forums on their own merits, to Women Circle leaders like Yamilee Cherubin Mathon and Stella Jane, who continue to drive change within their communities.

These encounters have served as a powerful reminder that WLEH is more than a program, it is a growing global movement. By investing in women, we are not only expanding individual opportunities, but also fostering institutional equity and building a network of leaders who are transforming the eye health sector from within.

In addition, our on-the-ground team, Orbis’ Kathleen Sherwin, Ayisha Diop, and Jennifer Tapia, alongside Seva’s Heidi Chase and Njoki Wachira, actively supported advocacy efforts during the Africa session held by the IAPB Gender Equity Work Group, contributing to important regional dialogue and reinforcing partnerships to advance gender equity in eye health.

2030 InSight Live brings together the entire global eye health community.

The Africa-focused session proved to be a highly impactful consultation, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders to generate action-oriented feedback on advancing women’s and girls’ eye health across the region. Designed as a consultative space, the session linked discussions on gender equity, education, and the economic value of vision, while actively engaging participants through interactive panels and breakout discussions, for their valuable insights to feed into the Nairobi Commitments, in the lead up to the Global Eye Health for Summit to be held in November this year.
